Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, commonly referred to as LiTFSI, has the chemical formula (CF3SO2)2NLi, formula weight 287.08, appears to be white crystal or powder, with its density 1.33 g/cm3, melting point 236 °C (457°F; 509K). LiTFSI is highly soluble in water. The decomposition point of LiTFSI is as high as 370 degrees Celsius; LiTFSI has excellent chemical stability at high temperatures and will not produce HF even in contact with water; LiTFSI can significantly reduce the risk of decomposition of the electrolyte at high temperature, even if being used simply as an additive.

In the secondary Li-ion battery field, LiTFSI can be used as an additive together with LiPF6-based electrolytes, and is also the main ingredient for LFP and ternary NMC/NCA electrolytes to enhance their conductivity, safety, and life cycle.

In Li-ion polymer batteries, LiTFSI improve the safety and performance of the battery, and can also adapt to ultra-thin and diversified requirements.

In high-performance primary lithium batteries, LiTFSI gives significantly better performance in terms of safety, capacity, and performance in wide range of temperatures than traditional lithium batteries using LiClO.
