Lithium Fluoride

Lithium fluoride, chemical formula LiF, is a white powder at room temperature. It is soluble in acids, slightly soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol and acetone. It is widely used in synthesis of lithium hexafluorophosphate LiPF6. It is also used as an additive in aluminum electrolysis and rare earth electrolysis, reducing the melting point and viscosity of the electrolyte and improving the efficiency of electric currents.

In the ceramics industry, lithium fluoride is used to reduce kiln temperature and improve features against thermal shock, abrasion, and acid corrosion. Lithium fluoride is also used to manufacture various raw materials containing single crystalline lithium fluoride, as well as special optical glass.
